_____________

There’s a few songs that haven’t left my brain in years and are on constant internal repeat:

David Mead, “Indiana”

Guided by Voices “Chasin Heather Crazy”, “Dragon’s Awake” & “The Key Losers”

The Smiths “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”, “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now”, ” I Won’t Share You”, man the list goes on.

Neko Case “I Wish I was The Moon”

Beach Boys “California Saga / Big Sur”

Coldplay “Fix You”

David Garza “Float Away”, “Disco Ball World”, “Slave”

Bryan Ferry “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright” & anyone I’ve collected covering this Dylan classic.

Elliot Smith “Say Yes”

Big Star “September Gurls”

Pavement “Range Life”

The Replacements “Achin To Be” & “Can’t Hardly Wait”, and wow, damn St. Paul.

Al Green “For The Good Times”

Chris Mills’ version of “Don’t Be Crushed”

Old 97s “Designs on You”

Grateful Dead “Ripple”

Public Enemy “Fight The Power”

Nick Lowe “Lately I’ve let things slide”

Willie Nelson “Funny How Time Slips Away”

Shins “Good as Gone”

Jay Farrar “Barstow”

Jay-Z “99 Problems”

Frightened Rabbit “Backwards Walk”

Lucinda Williams “Over time”

Johnny Cash ” I Still Miss Someone”

Sam Cooke “Keep Movin On” & “Bring it On Home”

Todd Snider “Enjoy Yourself”

Nina Simone “Just In Time”

….AND Wilco “Spiders (Kidsmoke)” takes the 10 minute cake and f*cks this list and everything above it to shreds.

More and more and more, Jazz had to be discarded due to the fact I work & study to those more than connect with them emotionally however Coltrane’s “My Favorite Things” interpretation and Cannonball Adderly’s “Somethin Else” record standout as constant go-tos for mood and focus. Anyway, all this shit, these go round and round in a continuous circle for many memorable reasons– imagine my brain being a giant jukebox record player that never stops spinning. Bye bye.
